For perspective: Caleb- Age 8  Logan- Age 5 Micah- Age 2  Dad- Hard to say Wife- Ageless 1.We want our kids to know they're smart, talented, good-looking and loved. So, at dinner one night I was joking around and said about Jess:  David (to Jess):  You're smart, talented, pretty, loved....and you have the best husband in the world. Caleb: You're not the best husband in the world. You are the 50th best husband. David: What? Who ...

The Most Awkward Text I Ever Received

Technology can be a wonderful thing. But, it can also be dangerous. A little over a year ago I received the most awkward text of my entire life. I thought I’d share my story in hopes of protecting you from suffering a similar experience. We were a few weeks away from my youngest brother’s wedding in Omaha, Nebraska. The extended Thorne family is a fairly close-knit group and texts were flying a mile a minute as the wedding approached. Soon, a large family group text began, filled with cousins, aunts, uncles, and my brothers and me. On July 2nd my cousin ...

Derek and I decided to determine who would win the NBA Finals by playing egg roulette. The carton is filled with raw and hard-boiled eggs. You get one point for every hard-boiled egg you crack on your head. First one to 4 wins.  https://youtu.be/nfMlhGO7ZC8 Let's Go Cavs!

Dear Younger David #2

August 8, 1996 I went to Kings Dominion with a bunch of friends and a girl named Erica. Erica likes me. She is a very cool girl, but I don’t think I would marry her. So, I don’t know if God wants me to continue a friendship with a relationship in mind, or if God wants me to completely stay on the friendship level. I don’t know, I could learn so much by dating her, but I don’t know. Dear Younger David, I have no recollection of who this girl even is and you have pages of journal entries discussing ...

On Getting the Mail

As a short follow up to my last post about an interesting piece of mail I received (You can read it here), I wanted to follow up with a little mail workout you could try at home. Like most Americans I appreciate the extra exercise I receive from retrieving the mail daily. If you’re looking to shed an extra .1 lb., feel free to follow my simple daily routine.* Step 1: Walk outside and retrieve mail (for that extra burn, walk quickly) Step 2: Walk inside and towards nearest trash can (Consider choosing a farther away trash can to shed that ...

I Dream of Pants

Getting the Mail Getting the mail often feels like an exercise in moving paper from my mailbox to my trash can. Every once in a while something breaks through and catches my attention. That’s exactly what happened a few days ago. This one advertisement sucked me in, and even after I threw it away, has continued to haunt me. Who knew one advertisement could hold such power. Here’s the advertisement (The first pic. is from the Gap webpage, followed by the advertisement we received in the mail which I had to save from the trash for the photo): The Jeans I’ve ...
